How to Make a Dutch Bros Golden Eagle Freeze

What is a Dutch Bros Golden Eagle Freeze

The Golden Eagle is a creamy, vanilla, and caramel-flavored espresso coffee drink that can be ordered at any Dutch Bros Coffee Shop.
Dutch Bros describes the Golden Eagle as a creamy breve featuring bold espresso, half and half, vanilla syrup, and caramel sauce, then topped with whipped cream and a caramel sauce drizzle. Available hot, iced, or blended, making it a versatile drink for any day!

The Golden Eagle is similar to a caramel macchiato at other coffee shops, so if you wanted to get a Golden Eagle at Starbucks you could order an iced and blended caramel macchiato.

While the Golden Eagle Breve can be ordered hot, iced, or blended, today we will be covering how to make the blended version, AKA the “Golden Eagle Freeze”

Now that you’re familiar with the Golden Ealge Freeze, let’s talk about how you can make one at home!

Ingredients that you Need to Make a Golden Eagle Freeze

Vanilla and Caramel Syrup
The Golden Eagle includes equal parts vanilla-flavored and caramel-flavored syrup.

Dutch Bros uses Torani brand syrup in all of their shops. You can get a bottle of Vanilla Torani Syrup on Amazon here and a bottle of Caramel Torani Syrup on Amazon here.

If you’re trying to limit your sugar and calorie intake, be sure to look at the sugar-free syrup options below:

How much syrup should you use? Well, you could just add however much you think tastes good. If you don’t add enough at first you can also mix in some extra at the end.

But if you’re trying to make your Golden Eagle Freeze taste as close to Dutch Bro’s as possible, you’re going to want to use one tablespoon of caramel and one tablespoon of vanilla syrup.

If your syrup bottle has a pump on it, one tablespoon will be equal to two pumps.

Espresso Machine and Beans
Dutch Bros makes their Golden Eagle with two shots of espresso, so if you have an espresso maker that would be ideal.

You can even make your coffee/espresso with the same beans that they use at Dutch Bros shops! Check them out below:

If you don’t have an espresso machine don’t despair, you can still make a great-tasting Golden Eagle if you have a mocha pot, which can be used to make a coffee of similar strength to espresso. If you have an aero press or French press you can increase the strength of your coffee closer to an espresso strength by using darker beans, as well as using less water and more coffee when you brew.

And finally, if the only coffee machine you have available is a drip coffee maker or Keurig, I recommend using a stronger bean, ideally an espresso roast.

One last hack, if you want stronger coffee and can’t make espresso, is to make or buy cold brew! Since the coffee beans have been soaked in water for up to a few days cold brew is usually stronger than regular drip coffee.

Half and Half
The term “breve” in the coffee world refers to a drink made with half and half cream instead of milk.

For substitutions, you can swap the half and half for whole milk or non-dairy milk like coconut milk, oat milk, soy milk, or almond milk.

Ice
Since we’re making a Golde Eagle Freeze, ice will be necessary. You’ll also need a blender to crush the ice into a smoothie consistency. If you don’t have a blender you can still make a Golden Eagle, but it will be an “iced” Golden Eagle rather than a “freeze.”

Whipped Cream
Dutch Bros tops their Golden Eagles with whipped cream.

How to Make a Golden Eagle Hot

To make a Golden Eagle Hot simply steam the half and half prior to adding it to the espresso and syrups and don’t use any ice.

How to Make a Dutch Bros Golden Eagle Chai

To make a Dutch Bros Golden Eagle Chai, use the same ingredients and process as a Golden Eagle Freeze but replace the coffee with chai tea. The more concentrated the chai tea the better since it will be diluted with the half and half and ice.

You can even add a shot of espresso at the end for a “Dirty Golden Eagle Chai”

There you have it! If you’re a fan of Dutch Bros Golden Ealge Freeze you can now make it at home!
