How to Hard Reset a Keurig K Compact (K-35)

A Keurig Coffee Maker is one of the most efficient and easiest ways to make a delicious coffee cup. However, like any other appliance, it can experience malfunction over time.

A hard reset might come in handy if your machine is unresponsive, having problems with clogs, or only brewing partial cups. If you have a Keurig K-Compact (K35) or whatever Keurig machine you have, resetting can help you resolve some issues.

In this article, we'll walk you through how to hard reset a Keurig K-Compact for optimal performance.

You'll learn about different methods with detailed instructions to get your K-Compact running in no time.

So, let's get started!

What is a Keurig K-Compact?

A Keurig K-Compact Coffee Maker is a single-serve coffee maker that is space-efficient but does not skimp on delivering delicious coffee, which is what the Keurig brand is known for.

The Keurig K-Compact brings unparalleled convenience as its Smart Start feature heats and brews in one simple process.

It has a removable drip tray allowing you to accommodate travel mugs up to 7.0 inches tall.

The K-Compact is also energy-efficient because it turns off automatically after two hours of inactivity.

Also, with its 36 oz water tank, you can brew multiple cups. The machine is also compatible with all K-Cup pods pre-filled with coffee, tea, and hot cocoa.

For added convenience, the button controls are simple. You have to insert the pods, select your desired cup brew size (6, 8, and 10 oz.), and brew a delicious cup in under a minute.

Why Do You Need a Hard Reset?

A hard reset might be necessary when your K-35 encounters glitches or errors. Like other appliances, your K-35 can malfunction over time.

Resetting can fix some issues and improve the coffee machine's overall performance.

Here are some issues of your K-Compact that tell you when it's time to reset it:

  • Not brewing properly (Only brew partial cups or nothing at all)
  • Leakage
  • Unresponsive
  • Not turning on
  • Making Squealing or Grinding Noise

How to Hard Reset Keurig K Compact (K-35)

Resetting the Keurig K-Compact (K-35) is a straightforward process.

Before resetting, disconnect the coffee machine from the power source. Next, remove the water source and empty it. Ensure that no water is left.

Then, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. Release the button after 5 seconds and wait for the machine to reset completely.

After that, reinstall the water reservoir into the machine and reconnect the K-Compact to the power source. Turn it on and fill the water tank with fresh water.

Run a test brew without inserting a K-Cup pod. Place a mug on the drip tray and press “brew.” The K-35 should brew properly, signaling that the machine has been reset.

Troubleshooting How to Reset Keurig Issues

If resetting does not work, learning how to troubleshoot to make your coffee machine run properly is important.

The following are some issues you might encounter and how to solve them:

K-Compact Does Not Brew

  • Place the K-Cup pod in the K-Cup pod holder and push the handle down. Ensure that brew buttons are flashing.

  • If the “add water” light is illuminated, fill the water reservoir up to the MAX line. Ensure the water reservoir is properly inserted in its base. If the “add water” light is still illuminated even after refilling the water reservoir, contact Customer Service. If the lights of the small mug, small cup, and large mug are all on at the same time, lift the handle and remove the K-Cup pod.

  • Close the handle and place a large mug on the drip tray. Press the power button once. The coffee maker will dispense hot water.

K-Compact Brews A Partial Cup

  • The exit needle may be clogged if your K-Compact brews only a partial cup. To resolve this issue, locate the needle at the bottom of the pod chamber. Get a straightened paper clip and use it to remove the debris.

  • After cleaning the needle, replace the pod chamber and close it. Plug your K-Compact into the power source and turn it on. Run a brew cycle with water only. This will help flush the remaining debris.

  • Another reason your K-Compact brews a partial cup is because the coffee machine might need to be descaled. Descale your coffee machine.

  • Another reason for this issue might be because the water tank is removed while brewing. Replace it and run a rinsing brew. Don't insert a K-cup pod.

K-Compact is Not Working, But All Lights Are On

If you're encountering this issue, here are some things you can do:

  • Unplug the machine for at least 30 seconds and plug it back into the power source. Turn your K-Compact on.

  • Fill the water reservoir with water up to the MAX line and ensure the water reservoir is inserted properly in its base.

  • Clean the needle if you think it's clogged. If the exit needle is clogged, you may experience problems in brewing, like not brewing at all, brewing partial cups, or a slow brewing process.

  • Limescale buildup may cause the machine to malfunction. To resolve this issue, descale your K-Compact.

If you followed the instructions for troubleshooting common K-Compact issues and the machine is still not working properly, it's time to contact Customer Service for further assistance.
